Boulder Park
Boulder Park features large stones that were sculpted in 1933 by an out of work Engineer, Merle Ratcliff, during the great depression. This sculptural assemblage features animals and other folk art creatures that lurk with in the boulders.
Ratcliff stayed was given free lodging as compensation for his carvings. He was inspired by how the wind had previously erode and curved portions of the stone to reveal what figure should be sculpted. Over 10 years Ratcliff was able to carve 37 total creatures.
Boulder Park has many pathways and caves to explore when looking for the next whimsical carving and continues to attract both locals and visitors to the Desert View Tower.
